Buying a perfume without smelling it can feel daunting. The good news is that with a few simple keys you can get it right far more often than you think.
1. Start with what you already love
Think of perfumes you have worn and adored. Were they sweet, fresh, woody? That is your main clue. Every OUD SPAIN product page shows the fragrance family and a visual profile (sweet, woody, spicy, fresh…) so you can compare quickly.
2. Get to know the main families
- Spicy amber and gourmand: warm, sweet and enveloping. Ideal for autumn and winter. Example: Khamrah by Lattafa.
- Woody and powdery: elegant and versatile, perfect for the office. Example: Dark Door Intense.
- Fresh and citrus: bright, for hot weather and everyday wear. Example: Aquatica by Rayhaan.
- Oud, tobacco and leather: deep and full of character, for the evening. Example: Spanish Tobacco by Ibraq.
- Floral and musky: soft and luminous. Example: Pink Diamond Sakura.
3. Read the fragrance pyramid
Top notes are what you smell first and they fade quickly. Heart notes define the perfume's character. Base notes stay on the skin for hours. If in doubt, focus mainly on the heart and base.
4. Check the concentration
An Extrait de Parfum is more concentrated than an Eau de Parfum and is usually more intense. Arabian perfumery is known for its power, so a few sprays are usually enough.
5. Think about when you will wear it
A dense gourmand can be too much in August; a light citrus may fall short at a winter dinner. Every product page lists the occasions where it works best.
